Holiday Home to Rent
In La Mayenne

La Goupillère is a fully restored (2010-11) old farmhouse which stands in the grounds of what was once a large working farm. Today, it has retained its tranquility and picturesque setting but with a more manageable amount of land. It was the land we wanted and bought when the house was sold in early 2011 and we are now offering it as a holiday let, having finished off all the renovation work and fitting it out to a high and comfortable standard.

With three double bedrooms and two bathrooms, the property is designed to accommodate six people in comfort. This is not really a Gîte in the traditional meaning of the term - it's a very well appointed country house, an old restored farmhouse and although we live nearby, and are therefore on hand should you need us, we are not on-site, so you can enjoy your privacy. Please take time to look through the pages of our website to get a more comprehensive view of what La Goupillère has to offer you. Should you have any questions about La Goupillère Country House or any comments about our website please do contact us.

This area of France has much to offer. It is farming country and most of the villages and towns hold events throughout the summer. There are many small medieval towns that retain their charm and history, amazing many visitors that they have never heard of them e.g. Sainte-Suzanne with its walled town, ancient fortress and château, Jublains with its extensive Gallo-Roman remains and Lassay-les-Châteaux with one of the best examples of a fortified medieval château in France, complete with a working drawbridge and barbican. Click here for a flavour of what's on your doorstep.

There are plenty of activities and the area is particularly noted for walking/rambling, cycling, fishing, horse riding, exploring ancient woodland or just driving through the beautiful countryside and forests. The Alpes Mancelles are 30 km (18 miles). There's plenty of scope for picnics - and indeed these are a regular local pastime!

For swimming, there is a wonderful lake with a sandy man-made beach at Sillé-le-Guillaume, just 19 km away (12 miles) and excellent public pools at Villaines- la-Juhel (13 km) and Evron (16 km). The beach at Sillé-le-Guillaume has horse and donkey rides, boat trips and bars and restaurants.

Other activities a short drive away are golf, horse-racing, a casino at Bagnoles-de-l'Orne

* Le Mans - the property is ideally suited for visitors wishing to attend events at the Le Mans racetrack. About 50 km away (31 miles), the route is trouble free and a very pleasant run. The ample covered parking, even for large vehicles and the safe environment are benefits we feel are not readily available with accommodation of this standard. Although intended for up to six people, there is potential for additional beds for short-term use. Please see the separate "Le Mans Connection" page for full details. Larger groups also see here.

Where are we?

La Goupillère is in the north-east of the department of La Mayenne, part of the region of Pays de la Loire and just south of Normandy and east of Brittany. It is easily accessed from any of the Channel ports; for example it is under four hours drive from Calais and the Eurotunnel terminal and two hours from Caen. Le Mans to Paris is only an hour by TGV.
