One of the delights of this area is the abundance of wild animals and birds.

There are thousands of birds of prey - it's a testimony to the integrity of the ecosystem that there are so many of these predators, who are at the top of the food chain. Herbicides and pesticides are generally not used so the area is teaming with life. You will see buzzards, falcons, bustards, kites and sparrow hawks. Also there are storks, herons and egrets and many other species, depending upon the time of year. We obviously can't guarantee you'll see them all but you can be confident you will see a good selection.

Mammals you are likely to see are red squirrels, coypu, polecats, beech martens and wild boar. That is of course in addition to the cows, sheep and deer that are everywhere.

At the right time of year the countryside is bursting with wild flowers, butterflies, moths and damselflies. The tiny humming-bird hawk moth is common.

Although rarer and usually timid, there are wild boar in the forests. The forest near Sillé-le-Guillaume and especially Coco Plage are particularly delightful for walking and spotting wildlife. There are many species of owls around and some often live in our barns.
