La Goupillère Saint-Thomas-de-Courceriers France | Holiday Home to Rent In La Mayenne |
Please note this is our "old" website. It is left here only as it contains a lot more information than our current, mobile friendly, one that you can find by clicking < here > This site is not maintained and any information within it must be considered as guidance only. For availability, pricing, terms and conditions and any other current information please refer to our current website. La Goupillère is a spacious, fully restored old farmhouse which stands in the grounds of what was once a large working farm. Today, it has retained its tranquility and picturesque setting but with a more manageable amount of land. It was the land we wanted and bought when the house was sold in early 2011 and we now offer La Goupillère as a holiday let, having finished off all the renovation work and fitted it out to a high and comfortable standard. Some guests have asked which part is their cottage... it is the whole lot! We can see that the pictures can seem to show three separate houses but all the buildings you see on this website are included in the rental. The accommodation is contiguous. Please see the floor plans. La Goupillère is surrounded by arable land. There are no smelly animal facilities or commercial installations anywhere in the vicinity. This is not to say there are no animals around, of course there are but only in the nice sense. With living accommodation of 185 square metres (2,000 square feet) and with three double bedrooms and two bathrooms each with a proper shower cubicle, the property is designed to accommodate up to six people in comfort. |
La Goupillère is not a gîte in the
traditional meaning of the term - it is a very well appointed detached
country house and, although we live nearby
and are therefore on hand should you need us, we are not on-site, so you
can enjoy your privacy. The property is stand-alone and there are no
other guests sharing any part of it. Please take a look through the pages of our website to get a comprehensive view of what La Goupillère has to offer you and see what we include in our prices, as our aim is to provide everything you are likely to need to make your stay enjoyable and hassle-free, with no extras to pay for. Should you have any questions or comments about our website please do contact us. This home page is intended to give you an overview and we hope you will be tempted to delve deeper into the individual pages showing the property more fully. Our site has a lot of useful information about the locality and even if you decide not to book with us we hope you find this useful. |

This area of France has much to offer. It is farming country and most of
the villages and towns hold events throughout the summer. There are
lots of small medieval towns that retain their charm and history,
amazing
many visitors that they have never heard of them e.g. Sainte-Suzanne with its walled town, ancient fortress and château, Jublains with its extensive Gallo-Roman remains and Lassay-les-Châteaux
with one of the best examples of a fortified medieval château in
France, complete with a working drawbridge and barbican. Click here for a flavour of what's on your doorstep. The Plantagenet city of Le Mans is an absolute must, especially so in July and August when the "Nuit des chimères" is enacted. You have dinner at one of the many wonderful, inexpensive restaurants then just as it's getting dark be prepared to experience one of the most enchanting spectacles you have ever seen. There are similar, if not quite so spectacular, events in Mayenne and Laval. For activity sports, horse riding, canoeing, rick climbing, etc. there is a lot to do in and around Saint Léonard des Bois (25 km) |
There
are plenty of activities and the area is particularly noted for
walking and rambling, cycling, fishing, horse riding, exploring ancient
woodland or just driving through the beautiful and traffic-free countryside and forests.
The Alpes Mancelles are 25 km but; although stunning, there is no skiing! There's plenty of scope for picnics and indeed these are a regular local pastime. For swimming, there is a wonderful lake with a sandy man-made beach at Sillé-le-Guillaume, just 17 km away, another at Gué de Selle, slightly nearer and quieter and excellent public pools at Bais (7 km), Villaines- la-Juhel (13 km) and Evron (16 km). The beach at Sillé-le-Guillaume also has horse and donkey rides, boat trips, pedalos and bars and restaurants. It's great for kids and adults alike. Other activities a short drive away are golf, horse-racing and a casino at Bagnoles-de-l'Orne which also boasts many good restaurants. Le Château de la Motte Husson, Dick and Angel's place featured in Escape to the Château, is an easy going 30 minute drive |

Where are we? La
Goupillère is in the north-east of the department of La Mayenne, part
of the region of Pays de la Loire and just south of Normandy and east of
Brittany. It is easily accessed from any of the Channel ports; for
example it is around four hours drive from Calais and the Eurotunnel
terminal and two hours from Caen. Dieppe is three hours. Le Mans to Paris is only an hour by
TGV. For visitors from Cornwall or Devon, Plymouth to Roscoff is a popular route. Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport is just over an hour from Le Mans, direct by TGV, where you can pick up a hire car at the station (best to pre-book). There are a number of regional airports, all about two hours drive away. The map below shows ferry ports (red) and airports (blue) nearest to La Goupillère, also the Le Mans racetrack, Loire Valley, Normandy beaches, etc. Click the map to enlarge it. Accessibility As the house is an old stone-built farmhouse with a long since fixed layout, it is unsuitable for people with mobility difficulties. People with small children should satisfy themselves that the terrain and upstairs bedroom layout are suitable. Children and Babies Are
welcome. We can provide a nice cot and mattress, a high chair in the
kitchen and a baby bath and changing mat but bring your own cot bedding
and baby things. The patio and flat lawn at the back of the house are
completely fenced so kids can play unattended in relative safety. A
child gate is available. Pets Well behaved pets are accepted subject to the relevant provisions of our terms and conditions. A pet gate is available between the lounge and kitchen/diner. |
Your Safety Throughout rural France there is the possibility of power being cut during storms. The domestic electrical system is different from the UK and arguably much safer. The most common scenario is that a circuit in the house trips and has to be reset, something that is very easy to do. Us "locals" are used to this but to ensure our guests do not have to stumble about in the dark we have provided emergency lighting in key areas (the lights come on if the power goes off) as well as battery powered bedside lamps in all bedrooms and an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) to provide lighting in the lounge and protect delicate AV and internet equipment. You won't know you need these until you need them, but when you do you will be glad of them! La Goupillère also has plenty of carbon monoxide sensors/alarms and smoke alarms. There is no known danger - they are there purely for your peace of mind and "just in case". |
